Background of Climate Change with basic Science and Engineering behind it

Lesson Summary

     In this chapter, students will learn about the causes and effects of a warming planet by exploring the role of greenhouse gases emitted from human activities, such as burning fossil fuels. Disruptive activity caused by humans has led to extreme weather, rising sea levels, and loss of biodiverse ecosystems. This will encourage them to analyze the local and global evidence to understand the science and socioeconomic impacts.

  1.  What is the cause of climate change and what’s the science and principle behind the phenomenon?
  2.  How am I and the people around me affected by climate change? How can I spread awareness?
  3. How does energy production lead to an increase in greenhouse gases? In what way does climate change threaten our jobs and communities?
  4. In what ways are the government, students, communities and big corporations improving the current state of the climate?
  5. Why have atmospheric carbon emissions increased 40% since before the industrial revolution?  (pre-industrial times)
  6. ​How does human activity contribute to the warming of the planet and greenhouse gas emissions?

​Learning Objectives: 
 Students will be able to...
  • Identify the causes of anthropogenic climate change and what the future could look like for humans.
  • Hypothesize and make conclusions about what would continue to happen if carbon emission rates continue at this speed.
  • Discuss the importance of energy dependency.
  • Differentiate the efficiency and effects of fossil fuels compared to renewable energy
  • Name the major causes of anthropogenic climate change.
  • Explain the ways we can reduce energy spent in homes, communities, and overall on earth.
  • Understand that exploring potential alternative solutions can create a sustainable future for future generations.
