Class 6: Prepare to make a Biological Battery

Engineering & Electrical Technology

Lesson Summary

Students will be equipped with the tools, information, knowledge, and techniques necessary to create biological batteries and design an electric circuit that lights up an LED. They will learn how to use a multimeter to measure for performance monitoring, diagnosing, and data recording. These are important techniques and skills in clean energy operation and engineering.

Essential Questions:

  1. How can a biological battery help reduce carbon dioxide emissions?

  2. What are different ways we can use the energy produced from a biological battery?

  3. What are the advantages of using a biological battery?

  4. Why do we want to use biological batteries to replace chemical batteries?

Learning Objectives:

  Students will be able to...

  • Learn and identify the key components and materials of a biological battery.

  • Recognize the functioning parts of a biological battery.

  • Understand the influence of each component on battery performance.

  • Prepare essential materials and workspace to ensure efficiency.

  • Learn the steps of the process that lead to making a battery.

  • Learn how to use a multimeter to measure and collect data.

  • Interpret the common problems and mistakes often made in making biological batteries.

  • Comprehend the diagnosing and troubleshooting process.
