Class 8 Biological Battery Pack and Circuit Making

Story

Lesson Summary

 

In this lesson students will lean and hands on to make  biological batteries pack and a circuit include LED and their self-made biological battery. They will follow the instruction on each step and examined by teacher and self-examine with each other to ensure each step is correct and well done.  Students will make a battery pack out of the 3 batteries they made in the previous class. Then students will connect the battery pack with a LED light in the right direction and correctly connect with their self-made biological battery pack. The teacher will examine it to make see if the students are making the correct connections.  Then students will turn the switch on to see if their self-made biological battery and battery pack light up the LED light. Students will use multimeter to record  the light up voltage and current. Students need to trouble shooting if their LED light is not light up by their batteries . In the process, students will learn to gain real world engineering experience and learn to identify and solve the real power problem. s


Essential Question 

 

  • How is the voltage and current change of the biological battery pack when they light up the LED light. If their LED light was not light up, why?

  • What are the issues if their battery can't light up LED light?

  • What could be the reason to cause the issues? and how to solve the problem?

  • Discuss the performance of the biological battery from their over time observations, hands on practice and data measurement and collection?

  • What could be the possible ways to improve the voltage and current output of the battery?

  • What they learned from this hands on practice class?

 

Learning Objectives

 

  Students will be able to

  • Engage in discussions about the impact factors to the battery pack performance.

  • Discuss how the engineering issue they met and how to improve next time.

  • Discuss what they learned from the hands on practice compare to the theory they learned from the book?

  • Explore the ideas of different applications of the battery and the possible different designs of them.
